With only 7 hours to go, all teams have really turned up the heat. We’re not sure if it was the 30 minute closed door judging committee get-together, the 16” pizza per developer, or just the opportunity for a communal chit-chat and fear of what the competition is delivering that has really spurred on the teams, but there has been a dramatic shift in demonstrable content!

Here’s an update on the progress so far in Yaroslavl...With a third of the available time gone, the teams have had some mixed experiences. All started confidently setting short timeframes on initial deliverables, but the reality of some of the challenges has proved difficult to overcome.

I’m at the Confirmit offices in Yaroslavl, Russia for the second of the Confirmit Hackathons. This time we have members from our Russian R&D offices participating in a 19 hour long programming exercise. I am a member of the judging panel along with Peter Myklebust, Trond Johansen and Dmitry Mastrukov. We landed in Moscow yesterday afternoon and Dmitry took us on the 5hr drive north east of Moscow to the Golden Ring town of Yaroslavl. This considerable journey allowed us to discuss the four projects that the teams would be working on today and formulate ideas around judging criteria.

I bought a new fridge a while ago. Not a compelling story in itself, but stick with me, I have a purpose. I bought in from Bootskitchenapplicances.com, which is part of Boots, a very large high street pharmacy chain in the UK. I’d inspected the fridge in another store in real-life, but the price at Boots was better, and they have a loyalty scheme of which I’m a member (£20 worth of points that I can blow on cosmetics is always a draw for me!)

I’ve just returned from one of my regular trips through Asia and Australia. On my (rather eventful) travels, I met with some leading Market Research agencies, attended a couple of big industry events and had the opportunity to just catch up on how the MR market is evolving in that part of the world.
